What is TFL Stars?
STARS is TFL's accreditation scheme for London schools and nurseries. STARS inspires young Londoners to travel to school sustainably, actively, responsibly and safely by championing walking, scooting and cycling.
STARS supports pupils' wellbeing, helps to reduce congestion at the school gates and improve road safety and air quality.
What is TFL Stars accreditation?
If Junior Travel Ambassador’s are successful in completing a range of activities to promote healthier travel in their community, they can apply to receive the TFL Stars gold, silver or bronze award.
Who are the Junior Travel Ambassador’s?
Our Junior Travel Ambassador team are a proactive group of children from Year 5 and Year 6 who have given their free time to work alongside Travel Champions to promote, build awareness and participate in travel issues in and around out school.
Joining over half the school’s in London, Henwick’s Junior Travel Ambassadors have worked towards making their environment healthier and safer by recognising ways to improving road safety and the health and wellbeing of members of our school community.
What activities have the Junior Travel Ambassador's been involved with?
Our Ambassadors work busily on many activities throughout the year including giving feedback, conducting surveys, planning activities and creating positive attitudes to travel under the guidance and support of our local borough representatives.
Travel targets for 2022-23
Our travel targets for this year, 2022-23 are:
- To decrease car use by 5% by June 2023 (32% to 27%) – this we can achieve by using the ‘park and stride’ technique of parking a little further away from school and walking the result of the way. This provides us with less congestion and more clean air around our school.
- To increase cycling from 3% to 5% by June 2023 – this can be achieved by choosing to bring your bike to school and parking it in our bike and scooter park safely.
